Leo Hinderks, 73, Webster City, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Southfield Wellness Community. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Webster City with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday.

Leo K. Hinderks was born April 9, 1931 on a farm northeast of Kamrar to Henry Hinderks and Jenny Klooster Hinderks. He attended Liberty No. 4 Rural School of Kamrar. At age 14, Leo followed the example of his older brother and began working at a lumberyard in Blairsburg, after the death of his father, in order to help in the support and care of his family. On Sept. 10, 1950 Leo married Ruth Brewer at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church. They began their life together residing in Webster City. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage, Leo and Ruth became the proud parents of four children, Penny, Timothy, Samuel and Amy. Throughout his life, Leo's work career included driving truck, operating heavy equipment and being a mechanic for many years at Maudlin's Construction Company. Leo retired from Van Diest Supply Company where he was an over the road semi-truck driver for 12 years.

Many lives were touched by Leo's active and faithful service as a member of the First Baptist Church of Webster City. Leo served in many capacities within the church, which included being a Deacon, Trustee, Usher, Youth Sunday School Teacher, Baptist Youth Fellowship leader and was actively involved in the Baptist Men's Association. Leo's life centered around his family, supporting, encouraging, and participating in their numerous activities and lives. Leo's interests included fishing and camping with his family, maintaining the family farm pastures, enjoying his tractors and helping family members with their farms as well as collecting hats, pens and friends everywhere he went!

Leo Hinderks is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter and son-in-law, Penny Hinderks-Pepper and Jess Pepper of Cambridge; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy K. and Kelly Hinderks of Ames, Samuel and Amy Hinderks of Des Moines and daughter and son-in-law, Amy Hinderks-Soderberg and Scott Soderberg of Ottawa, Kan.; grandchildren Kate and Samantha Pepper, Lisle, Tyler and Amanda Hinderks, Jameson and Andrew Soderberg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Luella Hinderks, Webster City, Karen Hinderks, Webster City; Merrill and Lorraine Hinderks of Jewell, Eldon and Lanita Hinderks of Woolstock; and several nieces and nephews.

Leo Hinderks was preceded in death by his parents, older brother and sister, Dennis Hinderks and Doris Hinderks, and younger brothers, Arvin Hinderks and Kenny Hinderks.
