Duncombe trucker found dead

Lanny W. Machovec, 33, a Duncombe truck driver, was found dead Thursday in a motel room at Tipton, Iowa, the apparent victim of smoke inhalation.

Machovec, a graduate of Webster City, high school in 1968 and a Vietnam veteran, had been driving truck for the Brazo Transportation Co., and had stopped overnight at the Tipton motel.

An autopsy was performed at a Cedar Rapids hospital and it was determined that Machovec apparently had died from breathing smoke caused by insulation smoldering in an adjacent room at the Liberty Inn.

Bruce's Funeral home of Fort Dodge will have charge of the services which have tentatively been set for Tuesday, with the time and other arrangements to be announced Monday.

Lanny William Machovec, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Machovec of Fort Dodge, was born Feb. 21, 1948, at Fort Dodge. He attended Riverside elementary school in Fort Dodge, but was graduated from Webster City high school in 1968.

He was married to Rebecca Coulter, and one daughter, Melinda, was born to this union.

Surviving are his daughter, now residing at Manatee Springs, Colo.; his parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Allen [sic-Alan] (Linda) Eckhoff of Visalia, Calif., Mrs. Denny (Judy) McKinney [sic-McKenney] of Somers, Iowa.

Machovec, who was residing at 507 Lunday St. in Duncombe, had lived in the Duncombe community for the past year and a half while driving truck for the Brazo company.

Lanny was the son of Gerald James Machovec and Ula Crummer. He married Rebecca Coulter in 1965, and they were later divorced.
