June Burlette Laurine Ness Peterson, 94, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021 at Heartwood House in Ames, Iowa.

June was born on September 5, 1926, to Beulah and Alfred Ness in Lake Mills, Iowa. She graduated from Lake Mills High School and went on to attend Waldorf College in Forest City. June later worked as secretary to the President of Waldorf. On June 6, 1948, June married Leslie M. Peterson. They farmed near Jewell for many years. Leslie passed away in 2006.

Besides being a great wife and mother and grandma, June was a wonderful cook and baker. She was well known for her delicious and beautifully decorated angel food birthday cakes. She also enjoyed her activities at Bethesda Lutheran Church and keeping up her garden and pretty flowers.

Her family was her pride and joy. She will be greatly missed by her two daughters Linda East of Cedar Rapids and Lori Peterson of Jewell and her grandchildren, Stacy (Mike) Bowdish of Phoenix, Arizona, Bradley (Courtney) East of Marion, Iowa, Anthony (Kristi) Buck of Jewell and Felicia (Ryan Lawler) Buck of Austin, Texas and great grandchildren Lexi and Alyssa Bowdish, Ellie and Parker East, Khloe and Braxton Buck and Roice Lawler. Also surviving her are her sister, Thelma White, and sisters-in-law, Ruth Peterson, Ina Sabby, Pat Peterson and Marlys Peterson and brothers-in-law Sterling and Stanley Peterson and many nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, her parents Beulah and Alfred Ness, in-laws, Ida and Anton Peterson, sons-in-laws, Danny East and Chuck Buck and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Heartwood House for the wonderful care she was given.

Funeral services were February 3, 2021 at 1:00pm at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell was entrusted with arrangements.
