South Hamilton Record News, Jewell, Iowa, October 7, 2020

LaVonne Hanson, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at her residence in Jewell, IA.

A private family memorial service was held at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, IA on Sunday, October 4. Burial of LaVonne's cremated remains followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell.

LaVonne Delores (Johnson) Hanson was born on May 11, 1923 on the family farm near Randall to Malachi and Martha Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Iowa. She attended school in Randall and graduated in 1941. She was always thankful she had the opportunity to attend parochial school there for eight years.

LaVonne attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and was employed as a payroll clerk at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny during WWII and later employed at the Egenes Insurance Agency in Story City. Her fiance, Hubert Hanson, returned after the war and they were married on June 3, 1945, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. They spent their life farming and raising a family in Radcliffe and Jewell. She worked at 3M in Ames for ten years retiring in 1989. She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell teaching Sunday School and Bible School for more than twenty years. She loved working in the church and was also active in Ladies Aid and helping out wherever needed.

She enjoyed decorating their home and entertaining her family. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by family and spoiling them with her cooking, especially her rice pudding. She and Hubert loved attending all their children and grandchildren's events and always encouraged them to do their very best in every endeavor they pursued.

LaVonne passed away on September 30, 2020 at her home in Jewell surrounded by her children.

She is survived by her son, Bob (Sharon) Hanson of Urbandale; daughter Pat (Denny) Samuelson of Jewell; son Randy (Lori) Hanson of Circle Pines, MN; son, Ronald Hanson of Ames; and daughter, Pam (Arlon) Samuelson of Stanhope; and grandchildren Scott Samuelson, Anthony (Barb) Samuelson, Christopher (Alyssa) Hanson, Matthew Hanson, John Hanson, Abby (John) Goeller, Alison Hanson, Sara (Brian) Anderson, Sandra (Matt) Swanson and Casey Samuelson. Great-grandchildren include Lhotse Samuelson, Quinci and Jameson Goeller, Nathan, Matt and Lucas Hanson and Noah and Annie Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hubert, brothers Orvie and Myles and sisters Gladys, Alvina, Hazel and Grace. If LaVonne were here, she would say "uffda" that was a long and great life but it is now time for me to rest.

Blessed be the memory of LaVonne Delores Hanson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
