Esther Ness, age 103, formerly of Jewell, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at her daughter's home near Radcliffe, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 23, 2:00 pm at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3726 Nelson Ave., Jewell, Iowa 50130.

Burial took place in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, 3726 Nelson Ave., Jewell, Iowa 50130.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Assn.

Esther Linnie Ness was born on February 15, 1918. She was born to Lewis Martin and Anna Serina (Olson) Johnson at their home rural Jewell, Iowa.

She attended the Clear Lake Township #1 Country School.

On March 4, 1951, she married Carl Ness at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church rural Jewell. Four children were born to this union: Mary, Marvin, Marilyn and Myron.

Esther helped mothers with new babies, worked as a nurse's aide at the Hamilton County Hospital, helped Carl with the farming along with being a homemaker and mother to their children. She also cared for her sister Millie for 17 1/2 years.

Esther enjoyed family get togethers, visiting neighbors and friends and helping others.

She was an active life-long member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Women's Fellowship and CIC Club.

Those left to cherish her memory are children Mary (Bryce) Klaver of Radcliffe, Iowa, Marvin (Kathy) Ness of Jewell, Iowa, Marilyn (Jim) Nelson of Ostrander, Minnesota and Myron Ness of Jewell, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jadon (Angie) Klaver, Justin (Brodi) Klaver, Carlton Ness, Parker Ness, Jay Nelson, Jeffrey Nelson; great-grandchildren; Kyle and Rebecca Klaver and Nova Nelson; along with her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, sisters Millie, Esther Mae (infant) and Arlene (infant) and her brother Leonard Johnson.

The family wishes memorial contributions to be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Assn.
