Funeral Services Held Saturday Afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Henderson

Story City, June 4 -- Funeral services were held in the Bethel Lutheran church in Story City Saturday afternoon following a prayer service in the Henderson Funeral home for Mrs. Bertha Henderson who died at her home Thursday at 3:30 a.m. after an illness of 13 months brought on by a stroke. Rev. A. J. Bringle officiated and Rev. G. O. Paulsrud spoke a few words. The body was laid to rest in the Boe Cemetery, north of Story City. Casket bearers were Jack Wierson, James Thompson, Ray Henderson, David Henderson, Roy Thompson and Richard Henderson Jr.

Mrs. L. B. Lund sang "Still, Still with Thee" at the prayer service. Vocal numbers were rendered at the church by LeRoy Hill who sang "I'm but a Stranger Here," Orville Holson "Tell Mother I'll Be There," and Theodore Hoversten, the Norwegian son "Tank Naar Engang."

Besides the floral offerings a sum of $78 was given to benevolence in memory of the deceased.

Bertha Bergeson was born July 6, 1874, at Malone, Clinton county, Iowa. She passed away May 29, 1947 at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 23 days. At the age of four she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Bergeson, to Randall where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to March 17, 1891 to Oscar Henderson. To this union nine children were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers and four children, Henry and Milton and two who died in infancy.

Surviving are the five children, Richard, Burton and Lincoln all of Minneapolis, Minn., Ruby Ruegsegger of Stockton, Calif., and Celia Wierson of Story City. Also four stepchildren, Lizzie Skeie of Story City, Lewis Henderson of Boone, Morris Henderson of Ames and Ida Thompson of Roland, 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. All the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Burton who was absent on account of illness.

She was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran church by Rev. Mikkelson. After her marriage she became a member of the Elim Lutheran church of Randall after moving to Story City in 1912, her membership was transferred to the Bethel church in which she was a very faithful worker in the Ladies Aid and the church.
