B. Darlene Berkler passed away peacefully July 3, 2021 at the age of 89 in San Francisco.

Darlene was born October 5, 1931 to Amanda Mamie Dougherty Derby. Mamie and twin sister Mary Amie married brothers Lee and Charles Derby. Both families settled in Wynot, Nebraska.

Darlene married Willis Edward (Bugs) Berkler in 1946, worked at Feldman's in Spencer, Iowa where she discovered her lifelong love of bowling and won numerous trophies. Darlene and Bugs lived in Estherville, where daughter Leslie was born in 1960 and ultimately settled in Ellsworth in 1965. Darlene was employed by Land O'Lakes for more than 30 years.

Darlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth and the Jewell Golf & Country Club. She was devoted to her family, her many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends in the Ellsworth area.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mamie, her siblings: Francis, Harvey, Margaret, Ray, Harold, Dolly, George, Leo and Cleone. After the passing of her husband Bugs in 1994, she reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Paul Cisney with whom she shared many years until his death in 2007.

She is survived by daughter Leslie, son-in-law, Andy Ross, granddaughter Hayley and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

An informal coffee and gathering was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth on Wednesday July 28 at 10 am. Burial will take place in Storm Lake on Thursday, July 29 at 11 am. For more information about these events call 510-479-4573 or email leslie.berkler@gmail.com
