South Hamilton Record News, Jewell, Iowa, October 13, 2021

Marilyn Anne Hovick, 77, of Nevada and formerly of Ellsworth passed away October 4, 2021 at Story County Senior Care. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 7 at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Burial followed in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Marilyn was born on April 29, 1944 in Story City to Bill and Sally (Haakinson) Thoreson. She worked as a nurse at Mary Greeley, McFarland Clinic, Northcrest and Bethany Manor. Marilyn lived in Ellsworth for most of her life until moving to Nevada. She was baptized, confirmed, married and continued to be an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Ellsworth.

Marilyn enjoyed being a grandparent above all things. Her grandchildren were very important to her, whether it was sitting in numerous gyms watching their games or having conversations with them. Her other passions included gardening, where she won Yard of the Week numerous times, fishing with her custom made fishing rod, doing puzzles and crosswords, Norwegian baking with her daughters and grandkids was one of favorite pastimes. Marilyn loved her dogs and grand dogs. At heart Marilyn was a caring nurse and great friend to all. Her faith was her foundation that she lived her life on.

She is survived by her life companion, Bryan Doty of Nevada; children, Todd (Kim) Hovick of Monroe, NC, Amanda (John) Pelzer of Melbourne, IA, Sea (Joel) Fey of Norwalk and Susan (Colby) Entriken of Hudson; nine grandchildren, Mason Pelzer, T.J. Fey, Traye Pelzer, Riley Gogatz, Allison Fey, Taylan Entriken, Rebecca Entriken, Zach Hovick and Tate Entriken and two brothers, Allen (Sylvia) Thoreson of New York and Larry (Judy) Thoreson of Wisconsin.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Sally Thoreson; husband, Jimmy Chrnaoski and granddaughter, Madison Pelzer.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home in Jewell is entrusted with arrangements.
