Marilyn Erickson of Jewell passed away August 10th with her family by her side.

Born in Davenport to Ralph and Elvera (Meyer) Weih on May 12, 1931, she grew up in the Bennett, IA area. Following high school she went to the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, graduating with a teaching degree and taught 1st grade in Brooklyn, Ames, and Ellsworth.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Palmer Erickson Jr. on June 12, 1955. They raised their 6 kids on an acreage outside of Jewell, where they established the family business.

Family time was always treasured, and Marilyn spent many hours watching her kids, grandkids, and great-children at their numerous concerts, programs and sporting events. Marilyn’s other love was Bethesda Lutheran Church where she volunteered for many activities, served on many boards, and was actively involved with the ladies aid including making quilts and cherished the time and fellowship with her friends over a cup of coffee.

Marilyn is survived by her children Sherri (Doug) Hove of Jewell, Wendy (Peter) Gay of Rochester, MN, Rachel Hammer of Greeley, CO, and Kent (Joyce) Erickson of Ames. Grandchildren/great-grandchildren Heath (Cara) Hove (Josie, Kaden and Callen); Amanda (JC) Kruse (Jalen, Austin and Brooklyn); Ross (Ashley) Hove (Marion); Janessa (Steve) Bryant (Jianna); Aaron (Jenna) Erickson (Reagan, Kendall and Tate); Leah (Nick) Consier (Easton, Zane and Millie); Justine (Heath) Johnson; Ben (Erica) Erickson (Bradley and Ila); Sam Gay, Anna Gay, Chris Hammer, Jon Hammer, Jake Hammer and Zach Erickson. Sister Joyce (Jim Hoffman) of West Des Moines. Sister in-laws Mary Weih of Bennett, Shirley Isebrands of Jewell, Alois Erickson of Nora Springs, IA, Elinor Erickson of CO, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Palmer, sons Joel and Brad, granddaughter Nora Gay, her sister Eileen (Bill) Stender and brother Harold Weih.

Visitation will be Friday August 13th from 1-2:30 followed by the funeral service at 3 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. The service will also be live-streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend. Please like the Bethesda Lutheran Church – Jewell, IA Facebook page to watch.
