Mabel I. Cavaiani, 81, Wadena, died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union after a long illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Volga United Methodist Church in Volga with Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral home, Arlington, Iowa, and for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery in Dumont at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Volga United Methodist Church.

Mabel Irene Sniffin was born on Sept. 12, 1919 at Manly, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Ida Hall Sniffin. Mabel graduated from Kamrar High School at Kamrar [Kamrar High School Class of 1936] and then from Iowa State University at Ames in 1940 with a bachelor of science degree in foods and nutrition. She married Charles C. Cavaiani on April 14, 1950 at Chicago, Illinois. Mabel managed two restaurants in Chicago for 20 years. She was a retired federal employee and was the author of 14 cookbooks. She was a dietary consultant at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point for 12 years. Mabel was a member of the Volga United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Association of University Women and the American Dietetic Association.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charles Vincent Cavaiani and sister, Shirley Sniffin.
