Shirley Carroll, 80, of Gowrie, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gowrie United Methodist Church, with Rev. Keith Pals officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and prior to service at the church.

Shirley Edna Halliday, daughter of Edward and Synva Berryhill Halliday, was born February 10, 1921 on a farm southeast of Webster City. She attended Webster City area schools, graduating from Fort Dodge high school in 1938. She also attended UNI at Cedar Falls. She had taught rural schools in Webster and Hamilton counties. On December 13, 1941 she married Leslie Charles Carroll at Nashua. The couple farmed near Callender until 1961, when they retired from farming to Gowrie. She was active for many years as a seamstress, baker and babysitter.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her husband, Leslie; daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Jerald Decker of Cypress, Ca., Beverly Edie, Kathryn Martin and Carolyn and Kelly Vladeff, all of Gowrie; Margaret Dingman of Webster City; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Glen Halliday of St. Cloud, Mn.; Earl Halliday of Helena, Mt.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was a member of the Gowrie United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, church circle and served as historian for the United Methodist Women.
