On Feb. 23, 1940 Viola married Owen S. Crosby. The couple built their life and family farming south of Webster City. Viola played an active role in the day-to-day operations of the farm where the couple has lived since that day, and where Owen will continue to reside.

Viola taught Sunday school for 25 years and participated in a variety of other church committees and activities. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, walking, chatting with her neighborhood club and raising her family. She is survived by her husband, Owen, their three children and spouses: Gene and Susan Crosby of Urbandale, Iowa; Lon and Ann Crosby of Webster City, Iowa; Sandra and Gary Frazer of St. Joseph, Mo and five grandchildren: Melinda Crosby Currans, Brian and Teresa Crosby and Kevin and Ryan Frazer.

She is also survived by sisters Leila Wemhoff of Moberly, Mo; Shirley Wangler of Urbandale, Iowa; Phyllis Richardson of Webster City, Iowa and brothers Gary Short of Independence, Iowa and Robert Short of Billings, Mt.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Estle Short and an infant who died at birth, sister Vesta Lowish and grandson Eric Frazer.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Asbury Methodist Church.
