Burt W. Richardson, 83, of Webster City, died Thursday, June 21, 2001 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. John W. Flaherty, celebrant. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. on Monday and at the church after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Burt W. Richardson, son of Carl and Cora Yates Richardson, was born November 29, 1917 at Big Springs, Kentucky. The family moved to Webster City in 1921. He attended Webster City schools, graduating in 1935. On November 27, 1941 he married Fern Branch at Webster City. He was employed as Production Engineer for Beam Manufacturing (Electrolux) from 1940 to 1959; co-founder of Beam Industries Inc., where he tooled the first built-in vacuum cleaner. He became Vice President of Arrow-Acme, Inc. in 1960, retiring in 1973. He also owned and operated farms in Hamilton County from 1955 to present.

He is survived by his wife, Fern; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Jan Halverson of St. Paul, Mn.; Jane and Marvin Montgomery of Denver, Co.; son and daughter-in-law, Jim Richardson and Donna Moore of Webster City; seven grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Bohlen of Boone; Pauline Richardson of Webster City; Helen Wehrheim of Solon; brothers, Morris Richardson of Solon; Norman Richardson of Webster City, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Richardson and brother, Sterling Richardson.

He was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, former president and board member of the United Cooperative, past president of the Hamilton County Saddle Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Meals on Wheels.
