Lila Ferne Carpenter, 97, Webster City, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Funeral services will be held at Willim Funeral Home in Clarion at 1:30 p.m. Friday with burial at Evergreen Cemetery to follow. Pastor Tim Platt of the Church of Christ will officiate with Gary Brandt singing "How Great Thou Art," and "Morning Has Broken."

Lila Ferne Carpenter was born October 13, 1903, the daughter of Brutus and Anna Mae (Montgomery) Tudor at New Canton, Illinois. Lila lived most of her life in Wright County, Iowa. On Dec. 20, 1924 she married Joseph Howard Carpenter in Webster City. Two children were born to this union. Howard and Lila farmed in Wright County until his death in 1958. Lila was an active member of the Church of Christ in Webster City and Clarion, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Plantagenet Society, the Huguenot Society, Webster City Women's Club and the League of Women Voters. She moved to Webster City in 1970.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Hill and husband Lowell of Urbana, Ill., daughter Bonnie Cook of Rowan, sister Anna Mae Hansen of Manchester, brother Woodrow Tudor of Arlington, Texas, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
