After a long courageous battle with cancer, Vicki Wehrheim Hawkins, 54, Solon, was called home by the Lord on May 28, 2001. Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Judy Gingerich. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Her cremains will be scattered at a later date in Vicki's favorite places.

Survivors are her husband, Robert Hawkins, two sons, Cody Hawkins and wife Lisa and their two children, Ashley and Austin of Swisher and Dustin Hawkins and wife Tara of Cedar Rapids, her mother, Helen Wehrheim, brother Gene Wehrheim Jr., and wife Nancy and their two children, Vince and Rachel of Solon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene V. Wehrheim.

She was born Sept. 4, 1946 in Webster City, to Eugene and Helen Wehrheim. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1964 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. She married Robert Hawkins on Sept. 4, 1965 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City. They resided in Cedar Rapids until Robert's graduation from UNI and later moving to the Cedar Rapids and Solon lake area.

She worked as a paraprofessional in the behavioral disorder classroom at Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids for 25 years. For many of those years, she was the social director for the high school faculty. She was a cheerleader coach for a couple of years. She created art with her husband and sold their creations for many years in the different art fairs in Iowa and Illinois area. She became known for her pheasant feather wreaths and crafts.

Vicki had many friends, but she had a few very special ones. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, dining and vacationing. The love and commitment she showed her family, her loyalty and trust she showed her friends and the courage she showed everybody during her battle with cancer are her legacy.

Vicki will be remembered by her many friends and family as fun loving. Someone that was always positive. Her sense of humor and outgoing personality, who lived and loved life to the fullest. Her two sons and grandchildren were the sparkle in her eye. She loved shopping for a good bargain, fishing with her husband and socializing. Mostly, she will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends. Her passing leaves an immense void in the lives of all who who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, Iowa 52240.
