Roy (Sonny) Olmstead Jr., 69, Webster City, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001 at the Church of Christ with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral Home and Tuesday at the church.

Roy William Olmstead, Jr., son of Roy and Sylvia Kennedy Olmstead, was born Nov. 23, 1931 at Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City Schools. On Sept. 2, 1950 he married Betty Arnold at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City. He worked at Webster City Pick Up Service with his father, later buying the business. He also operated a mail delivery service and star route mail delivery. He worked as a dispatcher for the Webster City Police Department and in 1969, started as Deputy Sheriff for Hamilton County, retiring in 1993. He continued to reside in Webster City.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Suzanne Olmstead, Iowa Falls, daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Larry Pingenot, Webster City, grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Olmstead, Jennifer Pingenot, brother, Jerry (Turk) Olmstead of Webster City and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Webster City Church of Christ. In 1970, he graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He was a member of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association and attended many law enforcement in-service training sessions.
