Guy S. Prunty, 76, longtime Webster City resident, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest Nursing home where he had been a resident the past year. He had been in failing health the past 10 years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Paul Heath officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Guy S. Prunty, son of Robert and Alma Smock Prunty, was born May 19, 1897 on a farm near Claghorn, Iowa. Later, he moved with his parents to Hartford, S.D., locating on a farm where he completed his education. After graduating from high school there, he attended the Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, S.D. He homesteaded in northwest South Dakota following his college training.

He was united in marriage Sept. 8, 1915, to Zelda Taylor at Hartford, and the couple made their home on the family farm near Hartford where they lived until 1937. They moved at this time to Webster City, and Mr. Prunty was for many years a custodian for the Webster City school system, retiring in 1953. The family continued to make their home in Webster City and resided at 1020 Bluff St.

Surviving are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Alma Prunty of Madison, S.D.; two sons and one daughter, Malcolm Prunty of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Don (Glendolyn) Peterson of Clear Lake, S.D., and Jonathan Prunty of Des Moines; two grandsons, James and David Peterson; one sister, Mrs. Dow Fetters of Hartford, S.D.; one brother, Earl Prunty of Rapid City, S.D., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and three brothers.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and the past worshipful master of the lodge at Hartford. He was also a lifelong member of the Methodist church and served on the church board at Hartford.
