Hamilton County Journal, Webster City, Iowa, April 2, 1898

Word was received in this city Wednesday afternoon announcing that Harry Kamrar was very ill at the Davis House in Ames. W.N. Merrill, as a relief committee of the Elks, of which Harry was a member, went down on the afternoon train and reached Ames just before Harry passed away. He immediately telephoned Mr. Kamrar of the death of his son and received instructions to make the necessary arrangements for bringing the corpse home. A committee of Elks went down to Ames yesterday forenoon and returned at noon with the remains. They were followed to the Kamrar home by a large party of Elks. The fact of his sickness and death as related by the hotel people of Ames are to the effect that he stopped off there Wednesday evening on his way home from Des Moines and asked for a room, requesting that he be called at 11 o'clock the next morning. An attempt was made to call him at that hour but no answer was received so a boy was lifted through the transom and opened the door. He was found to be unconscious and medical help was summoned. The physician succeeded finally in arousing him for a moment or so but he soon lost consciousness and passed away. The indications are that he took an over dose of morphine.

Harry S. Kamrar was born in Stephenson county, Ill., in 1866. He graduated from the law department of the Iowa state university in 1888. It is a sad affair and the family have the sympathy of all the community. The funeral will be held at the Kamrar home this afternoon and will be conducted by the Elks. Rev. Amos Crum will deliver the sermon.
