Sequel to a Drowning.
Webster City, August 4.—The sequel to the drowning of Lewis Gerber in this city a few days ago came out to-day when Fish Warden Delavan dropped into town with eight men in tow that he had captured near Kamrar. They were the companions of Gerber the night he was drowned in the Boone river. He had arrested them for seining the night of the drowning, and the case has turned out to be an exact parallel of the Montour case. It was while helping with the seine that Gerber was wading in the river and stepped from the shallow water to a deep hole. The story that the men had been in bathing, and it was after their bath that Gerber had slipped from the bank and was drowned, was merely concocted to shield themselves. A few days after the drowning parties who were in that vicinity accidentally stumbled on about a bushel and a half of decayed fish that had been hastily left a little ways back from the bank. They reported this to Delavan, but it was not until to-day that he was able to come and make the arrests. The denoument has caused considerable of a sensation here.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows the name spelled Louis and that he was born in 1873. He is buried in Graceland Cemetery.
