Jack Baker, of rural Ames, died after a year long battle with leukemia at Israel Family Hospice House on Thursday, March 21, 2019. As per Jack's request, there will be no public services.

Jack James Baker was born Jan. 21, 1948 in Story City [he was born in Webster City] to James Richard and Edna (Smith) Baker. He grew up on a farm north of Ellsworth and graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1966.

After graduation he served in the Army Reserves. He drove for Baker truck line and then had a long career at Sunstrand/Sauer Danfoss in Ames from which he retired in 2015.

Jack had lived on Baker's Acres acreage just south of Ames since 1976 where he boarded horses for many years. Jack was passionate about hunting and the outdoors. He lived to hunt ducks from the opening day to the end of their annual migration, often chasing them from the northern plains through Missouri to Arkansas. Along with waterfowl, Jack often hunted upland birds, deer, elk and turkey. He loved to camp, fish and trail ride in the summer.

Jack is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sharon (Morris); his son, Chris and Sheri Baker of Spencer; grandchildren, Chloe, Sam, Quinn and Meredith Baker; stepson, Chad and Hillary Morris and his children, Hayley, Chase, Addison and Logan, of Aurora, Colo; siblings, Don Baker and Jeanie Baker; along with many nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by his family and many hunting companions.
