Lamont Wicks, age 89, of Story City and formerly of Radcliffe, IA, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Bethany Life Communities in Story City, IA.

Memorial services for Lamont will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 8th, at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe, IA. Burial of Lamont's cremated remains will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery rural Ellsworth, IA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday evening at the Salem Lutheran Church.

Wilbur Lamont Wicks, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 27, 2019 while under hospice care at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa. Lamont was born on August 19, 1929 to Lars and Anna Mae (Olson) Wicks. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1947.

Lamont joined the US Navy on August 10, 1950 and was honorably discharged on June 2, 1954. On April 7, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mavis Joan Stenberg at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. They were married for 42 years.

Lamont and Mavis lived for a time in Jewell, Boone and Radcliffe Iowa before moving to California for a brief time. Upon returning to Iowa in 1963, they resided in Randall and then Radcliffe where they operated Wicks Hardware & Sundry. In 1972 they purchased Wicks Heating & Electric, which they operated until his retirement in 1996. Most recently he lived at Cedar Place in Story City, IA for several years before moving into Bethany Life Communities in February of 2019.

He was a member of the American Legion and Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. He enjoyed visits from his grandchildren, playing cards and chocolate or pineapple malts!

Lamont is survived by his son Greg Wicks of Radcliffe, IA and daughter Juli Rahfeldt of Fremont, NE; four grandchildren, Paxton Wicks of Iowa City, IA, Maria (Troy) Becker of Pierce, NE, Amy (Derek) Bergman of Spirit Lake, IA and Paul (Melissa) Rahfeldt of Castle Rock, CO; and seven great grandchildren, Ella and Lydia Becker, Tava, Kaden and Kyler Bergman, Rylan Gerjets and Bode Rahfeldt. He is also survived by a sister, Marie Baarson of Woodbury, MN and a brother, Robert (Marelyn) Wicks of Jewell, IA, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mavis, in 1997, grandson, Braden Wicks, son-in-law, Kevin Rahfeldt, brothers Henry and LuVerne Wicks and sisters Amy Swenson, Charlotte Meimann, Marjorie Eide and Esther Wicks.
