Darrell Ackerman, 87, of Fort Dodge formerly of Blairsburg passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 at Unity Point – Trinity Regional in Fort Dodge. Due to the state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be having a public memorial service at a later date. Foster Funeral and Cremation Center is entrusted with the services.

Darrell Francis Ackerman, the son of Francis and Matie Beyer Ackerman, was born October 16, 1932 in Iowa City. He graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1950. Darrell was united in marriage to Geraldine (Gerry) Smith on December 5, 1952 in Lehigh. They shared 67 wonder years together. Darrell served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. Those who knew him, knew he wore his Korea service cap with pride. He worked at Modern Farms Grain Bins, Northeast Hamilton School and farmed his entire life. Darrell loved being with his family, fishing, and enjoying antique tractors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #191 and the North Central Tractor Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry; three sons, Dwight (Becky) Ackerman of Clear Lake, Jeff (Mary) Ackerman of Florissant, MO, Dennis (Sue) Ackerman of Boone; three grandchildren, Kathy, Jessica and Dan; four great-grandchildren, Alix, Andrea, Alicia and Henry; four great-great-grandchildren, Tavin, Myla, Finn and Rylan. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
