Helen Marie Peterson Evans, 97, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Due to the current restrictions on gatherings the family will be having a private service. Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) will be open from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, on Thursday, March 19 for anyone who wishes to say a final goodbye to Helen. Please note that if more than the recommend nine people are there you will be asked to wait.

Helen was born on January 22, 1923, to Henry Engvald and Josephine Regina Tjernagel Peterson on a farm in Williams, Iowa. She was baptized at Rose Grove Church and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, IA. She attended school in Boone, Iowa before graduating from Randall Consolidated High School in 1941. During her high school years, she played forward on the girls’ basketball team and served as the team manager. She was an active member of Luther League and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Following graduation, she worked at the Peterson store and then opened, owned and operated Helen’s CafÈ in Randall, Iowa. At this time, she was instrumental in the development of the Riverside Bible Camp. Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, embroidery, visiting relatives and friends, family gatherings, and raising her children. She also enjoyed traveling, one of her favorite trips was to Norway in 1988 to explore her Norwegian heritage. Helen was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City and the Naomi Circle.

On June 23, 1956, Helen was united in marriage to Roy Dean Evans in San Francisco, CA. They returned to Webster City where they resided and raised their children, including: Kathryn Cory; Rita (Rev. Mark) Oswald, of Conklin, MI; Keith Evans, of Webster City; Deb (Bob) Fisher, of Waterloo; DeAnn (Dave) Atchison, of West Des Moines; Liz Evans, of Webster City; Cheryl Evans-Pryor, of Des Moines; Norma Evans Hoover, of Coalville.

In addition, she has 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sister Pat Bion of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, daughter Kathryn, three brothers: Bob, John, and Phillip; sister Norma; and two sons-in-law: Jimmy Pryor and Dan Hoover.

Spending family time together was the most important thing to Helen and she will be greatly missed by all. Blessed be the memory of Helen.
