ANKENY — Angie Appelgate, age 86, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020, at The Bridges At Ankeny.

Funeral service for Angie Appelgate will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 28th, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Radcliffe Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, January 27th, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 601 Isabella, Radcliffe, Iowa 50230.

Anna “Angie” Gelene (Berglund) Appelgate was born June 22, 1933, in Stratford, Iowa. She was one of six children born to Gustav Edmund and Bertha Johanna (Challe) Berglund.

She was confirmed May 30th, 1948, in Stratford Lutheran Church.

Angie attended rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Stratford High School with the Class of 1951. After high school, she attended Webster City Junior College and taught first and third grades in Randall and Stanhope Schools.

On December 27, 1956, she married Harold Appelgate from Ellsworth, Iowa. They moved to the S.R. Hyland farm north of Radcliffe in March of 1957, where they lived and raised their four children, for 39 years before retiring and moving to Radcliffe in October 1995.

Angie enjoyed her family, raising her children, attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, baking, and gardening.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, helped with the Jr. Luther League, and was President and Treasurer of the ELCA. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Harmony Club, and Red Hat Club.

Angie is survived by her children Monica (Kent) Eller of Greenwood, IN, Patrice (Jerry) Klaver of Kamrar, IA, Brian (Michelle) Appelgate of Webster City, IA and Marcia Dicks of Johnston, IA; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Olthoff of Stanhope, IA; brother Harold Berglund of Stratford, IA; sister Martha Carlstedt of Tucson, AZ, along with other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, one son in infancy, one brother Ronald Berglund, and one sister Lois Sargent.
