CLARION — Allen M. Kunz, 81, of Blairsburg passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

There are no services planned at this time.

Allen Maurice Kunz was born June 9, 1938, to Elmer and Irene (Waters) Kunz near Graettinger in Palo Alto County in Iowa. In his youth, he moved with his family to Foley, Minnesota.

Allen served in the United States Marine Corps from December 11, 1956 – December 18, 1959, with the 1st 155mm Howitzer Battery at Twentynine Palms, California, and continued with the Marine Corps Reserve until January 4, 1963.

Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Allen returned to Iowa and settled near Webster City. He was united in marriage to Sandra Kaye Wells on November 3, 1962. To this union, three children were born.

Allen worked a variety of jobs over the years, but spent the majority of his working years driving truck for KLA in Blairsburg, Ennis Trucking in Clarion and Nels Pederson in Badger before formally retiring in 2001. He continued to drive truck “part time” until April of 2019.

Allen was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his free time hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He grew a large vegetable garden each year, and he and family canned a variety of vegetables in large quantity each year. He was also known to be out on the open road on one of his Harley’s or in his beloved Jeep. When at home, the shop was the heart of the farm where family and friends gathered for holiday meals and get-togethers.

Allen will be remembered for being a stubborn, plain-speaking hard worker with a heart for spending time with his family, and for being an ornery, fun loving jokester.

Allen is survived by his children, Joseph Allen Kunz of Webster City, Bonnie Kaye (Mark) Olson of Webster City and Anthony Erin (Tracey) Kunz of Blairsburg; grandchildren Tyler John (Sarah) Kunz of Woolstock, Nicholas James Olson of Webster City, Megan Mae (Derrick) Drube and little baby Daxyn on the way, of Webster City and Mylie Erin Kunz of Webster City; siblings Leonard (Roberta) Kunz, Kay Paulson, Beverly (Lark) Asklund, Karen (Joseph) Credit; lifelong friend John Reed of Webster City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Cynthia Jessen, Marilyn Kepler and Charlene Worrick and brothers Darold Kunz, Larry Kunz, Roland Kunz, Leo Kunz, Elmer Dean Kunz, Harry Dean Kunz and Alvin Kunz.
