Donald Burton Jr., 83, of Webster City died Thursday, October 10, 2019 at MercyOne in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
Donald Edward Burton Jr., son of Donald and Jeanette Johnson Burton, was born September 17, 1936 in Webster City. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1954. Don attended ISU to play football, later transferring to Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On April 18, 1958, he was united in marriage to Karen Kay Kepler in Webster City. Don was a math teacher for many years at NE Hamilton, South Hamilton, Webster City, and Eagle Grove. He spent many years coaching basketball and football even after his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen of Webster City; son, Donald “Butch” Burton III of Webster City; daughter, Tammy Burton of St. Helena Island, SC; grandchildren, Haley, Hannah and Jake Gibbs; brother, Chuck Burton of Alaska and many extended family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Rae Burton and brother in infancy, Ronald Burton.
Don was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was an avid sports fan for both the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia.
