Kathryn Agnes Bottorff of Jewell, long time area resident, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2006 at home after a short battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at the Ellsworth United Methodist Church on Thursday at 10:30 am. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-9 pm at Becker Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Jewell, Iowa.

Kathryn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Bottorff; son Keith (Nan) of Leawood, KS; son Kevin (Linda) of Ellsworth, IA, grandchildren Danielle and Kieler; son Kyle Bottorff (Peggy) of Newark, DE, grandchildren Juliet, Cara and Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Burcham, brothers Burdette, Homer and Kenneth. Kathryn Agnes Burcham was born May 30, 1922 on a farm north of Blairsburg, IA. She graduated from Blairsburg High School and Webster City Junior College. She then taught at country school, near Stratford and in Woolstock and Blairsburg. On July 9, 1945 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Lyle Bottorff in Alameda, CA. They farmed at three Hamilton County locations until buying and moving to the farm north of Ellsworth in 1960. They moved to Jewell in 1994.

In addition to a full time farm wife and mother, Kathryn also had part time careers conducting state wide surveys for Iowa State University Statistics Laboratory and 28 years reading electric meters for Iowa Rural Electric Co. She was a long time, active member of the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, Church Women's Group, Ellsworth Study Club, PEO, Jewell Library Book Club, "Seniors and Friends", and an original member of the WDK club. She spent countless, rewarding hours volunteering for Hospice (past volunteer of the year for both Hamilton and Story counties), South Hamilton Reading Assistance program, and any other worthwhile need. Kathryn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family, friends and community will miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, at Kathryn's request, memorial donations may be made to the Ellsworth United Methodist Church, Hamilton and Story counties Hospice, or one's favorite charity.
