Shirley Doolittle, 71, of Webster City, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Israel Family Hospice House at Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Willers officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service time. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Memorials may be given to the Memorial Bible Program of the Gideons.
Shirley Maxine Beier, daughter of Elmer and Faye Bridges Beier, was born December 4, 1934 at Britt. She attended rural schools near Klemme and graduated from Klemme high school in 1952. It was there that she met Douglas Dwayne Doolittle and they were married September 9, 1956 at the Liberty United Methodist Church at Klemme. The couple resided at Webster City. She had worked at H and R Block and the Faith United Methodist Church for 12 years. She retired in 1998. She currently was a homemaker.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Doug, sons and daughter-in-law, David Doolittle of Ankeny; Matt and Kim Doolittle of Webster City; grandchildren, Ryan and Alyssa Doolittle; Kami, Keri and Joby Oberender; sisters, LaVonne Simon of Winterset; Beverly Thorson of Klemme; Janis Smith of Webster City; Joann Hansen of Kanawha; brothers, Robert Beier of Pleasantville; Gordon Beier of Garner; Ronald Beier of Leonard, MN; James Beier of Newtown, PA; Roger Beier of Mason City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, LeAnn Marie Doolittle in 1995; her parents; step-mother, Gertrude Beier; brother, Eugene Beier.
She was a former member of the Asbury United Methodist Church; a current member of the Faith United Methodist Church; director of the Childrens Choir; a member of the Bell Choir; taught Bethel Bible Classes; a member of Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron; a Gideon Auxiliary member; a member of Stratford Strutters Square Dance Club and was involved in the first Webster City community Theatre production of "Oklahoma."
