Tom Hartnett, 66, of Webster City, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. John Flaherty, celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the Mass on Thursday. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. with the Scripture service to follow at 7 p.m. Moose rites will be conducted by Moose Lodge # 735 of Webster City at 8 p.m.
Martin Thomas Hartnett, son of Martin and Helen Hanrahan Hartnett, was born April 6, 1940 at Webster City. He received his education in the Webster City School system, graduating from Lincoln High in 1959. He started working at Nissen and Son Food Processing Company. On April 23, 1960 he married Edna Jean Clabaugh at St. Thomas Aquinas. The couple resided at Des Moines for 10 years, there he worked for Iowa Drug in packaging. They returned to Webster City in 1969, where he worked at Electrolux, Webster City school system as a custodian at the high school, was a volunteer for the Webster City Fire Department, then became a fulltime firemen for 22 years. He retired in 1996. He worked part time at the Foster Funeral Home and started T and T car detailing.
Tom is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter and son-in-law, Bridget and Mark Roden of Webster City; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Amy Hartnett, Tony and Malynda Hartnett, all of Storm Lake; Jerry Hartnett, Todd and Lori Hartnett, all of Webster City; grandchildren, Christopher, Jake and Matt Roden; Kelsey and Jack Hartnett; Sammy, Jackie and Martin Hartnett; Charlie and Brice Hartnett; Jordan and Carson Hartnett; Eric, Ashleigh and Jacob Shinn; brother, Donald Hartnett of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Judy Hartnett of Webster City; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Nina Clabaugh of Webster City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mae and Art Tolle of Webster City; Mary and Albert Wise of MO; Ed and Thelma Clabaugh of Webster City. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Angie Hartnett; brother, Darwin Hartnett; nephews, Ronny Clabaugh and Mark Tolle; sisters-in-law, Janet Hartnett and Pamela Hartnett; father-in-law, Ed Clabaugh.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; administrator of the Webster City Moose Family Center; former Iowa Fireman's Association member; his hobbies included watching sprint car racing, NASCAR racing, watching his boys and grandsons wrestling and playing football and meeting his friends at the Seneca Street Saloon and the Moose Family Center.
