Madeleine Martha Eckerman, 92, passed away on March 8, 2006 in La Jolla, Calif. She was born in Webster City on April 19, 1913 to John Fredrick Svenson of Keil, Germany and Martha Madeleine Sarcy of Paris, France. Survivors are three children, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, John Svenson of Webster City.

Madeleine Martha Eckerman, 92, passed away on March 8, 2006, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. She was born in Webster City, Iowa, on April 19, 1913, to John Fredrick Svenson of Keil, Germany, and Martha Madeleine Sarcy of Paris, France.

She was the oldest of four children. Madeleine loved to ride her pony with her brother and sisters every morning before school. Madeleine also developed a passion for the family business of photography. She along side of her sisters, Leone and Yvonne, worked in the family studio, Svenson Photography.

On April 27, 1946, Madeleine married her beloved husband, Vincent Herman Eckerman. They soon moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where they opened a Custom Homes Construction Company, Eckerman Construction. There they raised their five children, close to family.

Sundays were days to remember, and build new memories. Madeleine was active in the community and the church. In the early '70s, Arizona called to them, and in 1972, they packed up and moved to Prescott Valley.

There, Vic and Madeleine continued to build custom homes, Madeleine became one of the originating members of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce. Madeleine remained an ambassador to the chamber until her passing. Madeleine kept busy with her children and grandchildren and all the organizations in which she belonged. Her zest for life will be greatly missed.

Shortly after Vincent's death on Feb. 19, 2002, Madeleine moved to San Diego, Calif.; there she lived with her oldest daughter, Barbara and her husband, Denny Ross.

Madeleine touched many lives in the short time she lived in San Diego, her love of life was hard to miss. Madeleine continued to visit Arizona as often as possible.

Her husband Vincent, and her two oldest sons, Richard and Joseph, precede Madeleine in death.

Madeleine is survived by her three children; Barbara Ross (Denny) of San Diego, Calif., Patricia Washburn (Tim) of Flagstaff, and her youngest son, Vincent Eckerman (Connie) of Prescott, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and her brother John Svenson of Webster City, Iowa.

A Rosary will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Germaine's Catholic Church. Officiating will be Deacon Tony Humphrey. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday March 28, 2006, 11 a.m. at St. Germaine's Catholic Church and officiating will be Reverend Daniel Vothner.

Interment at Heritage Memorial Park, Dewey, Ariz.
