Jerry "Turk" Olmstead, 66, of Webster City, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center at Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Doug Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Jerry Lee Olmstead, son of Roy and Sylvia Kennedy Olmstead, was born Nov. 30, 1939 at Webster City. He attended Webster City schools. He worked with his father at Webster City Pick Up Service. On Dec. 7, 1956, he married Ramona Ellen Nelson at the Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple resided at Webster City. He continued with the Pick Up Service. In 1960, they moved to Iowa Falls where he worked as a mail carrier for a star route. He started with the Webster City Police Department in 1966. He attended the Iowa State Police Academy at Iowa City, graduating in 1967. While working for the police department, he also worked parttime for Batcheller Construction and drove school bus (Duncombe route). He retired in 1988 as a sergeant from the police department. They moved to Lake Charles, LA, then returned to Webster City in 1997.

Turk is survived by his wife, Ramona; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Julie Olmstead; daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy and Evan Mossman and Michele and Randy Chalfant; grandchildren, Nick and Brett Olmstead; Sam and Ben Mossman; Lauren and Lynne Chalfant, all of Webster City; sister-in-law, Betty Olmstead; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marge and J.D. Kelly and Julie and Arnold Balsley, all of Webster City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Marlene Nelson of Tooele, Utah; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy (Sonny) Olmstead, Jr. in 2001.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Iowa State Police Association and a former member of the Iowa National Guard for six years.
