Bertus BJ Wepel died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at CLC in Granger from respiratory failure. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Grimes United Methodist Church in Grimes with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Boone.

BJ was born in Hamilton County [son of Heiko and Gertie Henning Wepel] and was raised in Webster City. He lived in Buffalo Center for many years where he raised his family and later returned to Webster City. BJ worked for Fred Carlson Construction out of Waterloo and retired as a route delivery driver for the Freeman Journal. In retirement he lived in Spirit Lake, Des Moines and Granger.

BJ is survived by his children, Betty (Rick) Burress of Forest City, Bonnie (Troy) Koester of Grimes, Bob Wepel of Buffalo Center; grandchildren Jamie Thompson, Brian Thompson, Anthony Koester, Ashley Koester and Jonathan Burress; his great grandchild Alana Thompson; and sister Margaret Lash of Boone.
