Glen Janssen, age 95, a former Jewell resident, died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation is Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorials may be sent to the family at Glenda Wills 814 Water Street Webster City, Iowa 50595 to be used at their discretion.

Glen Gus Janssen was born May 15, 1919 in Walnut, Iowa to Carl and Emma (Schnack) Janssen. He grew up in the Persia, Iowa area, baptized in the Persia Lutheran Church. Serving in the United States Army in World War two from Oct. 1941 to Dec. 1945 Glen was in the European Theater and in the Battle of the Bulge. On January 19, 1946 Glen married Donna Mae Staples in Webster City. Glen farmed and was a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Williams United Methodist Church. Glen enjoyed watching westerns, playing cards, camping and traveling, country western music and pitching horseshoes. His true love was always his wife and family. We will never forget the Sunday drives listening to polka while Dad smoked his cigar.

Glen is survived by five daughters, Charla (Marvin) Cole of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Gail (Dan) Thies, Becky (Kevin) Finch, Mary (Joe) McKinney and Glenda (Don) Wills all of Webster City; four sons Carl (Peggy) of Weatherford, Texas, James of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida and Jonathan and Gary both of Webster City; 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mae in 2011; two brothers, Ted and Bill; and a sister, Alvena.
