Truck mishap takes life of W.C. man

Dahlhauser is victim of hill accident

Kris D. Dahlhauser, 29, Webster City, was killed early Sunday morning when the pickup truck in which he was riding overturned on a steep hill on the Marvin Dally farm four miles south of Webster City and rolled to the bottom of the incline, pinning Dahlhauser under the vehicle.

Sheriff Jerry Farnham's office said this morning that Doyle Dally, 24, Webster City, had stated that he was the driver of the truck, owned by Patrick and Bill McCormick, and that he and three other persons were in the truck which was attempting to climb the hill.

Dally told the sheriff's officers that the truck had gotten near the top of the hill when it suddenly slid sideways, then rolled over and over to the bottom, coming to rest on its top.

Two other passengers escaped with minor injuries. Lori Downey, 26, Webster City, and Bill McCormick, 25, Webster City, received medical treatment for their injuries Sunday morning.

Sheriff's deputies and the Webster City rescue squad were called to the scene at about 3 a.m. The site was located far back from the gravel highway and approachable only through a long lane that skirted cornfields and brushy areas.

Deputy Sheriff's Dennis Linn and Lyle Seiser investigated the accident with members of the Webster City rescue crew aiding in the recovery of the body.

The sheriff's office said it's investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy was continuing.

Funeral services for Kris D. Dahlhauser will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist church in Osage with the Rev. Jack G. Speer officiating and with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Graceland cemetery in Webster City with Harvey Hearn, Jr. officiating.

Foster's Funeral Home has charge of services.
