Charles Teander Dies At Stratford

Charley Teander died Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m. at the Hamilton county hospital, where he was taken on Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Methodist church. The Rev. Otto Steele officiating. Burial at the South Marion cemetery. Jackson funeral home in charge.

Funeral services for Charley G. Teander were held on Sunday, May 23, 1954, at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Methodist church at Stratford with Rev. Otto Steele officiating.

Mrs. Harold Westrum sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Bell at the organ.

Pallbearers were Darrell Kelly, Reuben Naslund, Earl Swedlund, Franklin Rose, Howard Williams and Lee Stark. Thoe on the flower committee were Mrs. Rudy Hubner and Mrs. Herman Carlstedt.

Interment was at the South Marion cemetery.

Charley G. Teander, foster son of Nels and Louise Teander, was born February 22, 1870, and died at the Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City on Thursday, May 20, 1954 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 26 days.

He was raised and educated in the South Marion Community and at an early age became a member of the South Marion Methodist church.

On March 20, 1894, he was united in marriage to Hannah Hall and they made their home on a farm in the South Marion Community until 1908, at which time they moved to Stratford, where he continued to farm as long as his health permitted.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Calvary Methodist church. He was a man who loved life; treasured his friendships and lived by faith.

He was preceded in death by his foster parents, his wife and a son, Abner.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lester (Irene) Poulson; a son, Everette L. Teander; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one foster brother, Emil Teander of Des Moines; a foster sister, Rena Swanson of Stratford; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Emil Teander, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jeffries, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Hartshorn, all of Des Moines; Axel Spong of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Orris Paulson of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Arlow Johnson and son; Mrs. Oscar Johnson; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Caldwell and Cleo Williams, all of Pilot Mound; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Airhart of Lohrville.
