DIED. At his late residence at Stratford, Iowa, Saturday evening, January 13, 1900, Charles O. Rodine at the age of 46 years, 1 month and 27 days.

C.O. Rodine was born near Oscarholm, Sweden, November 16, 1853 and in company with his parents and three sisters emigrated to America in the summer of 1865, locating in Des Moines, where his mother and sister died, after which they moved to Swede Bend and lived with Olof Ferlen. In 1869 Mr. Rodine went back to Des Moines and worked for two years, his father having in the meantime moved to Kiron, where he then went and worked on a farm for a year. He then came to Boone and worked for Crary Bros. for nine years, and in 1881 moved to Stratford and went into the hardware and implement business, forming a partnership with Crary Bros. In 1886 he bought out Crary Bros. and the same year sold out to J.H. Johnson. In 1878 he moved on his farm south of town, but becoming tired of farming he again moved to town and engaged in business with O.F. Swanson in 1890, selling out to him in 1898, when on account of his health, he retired from active business.

He was married to Augusta Swanson, July 21, 1879. The fruits of their union were two sons and five daughters, who with his wife and aged father and two sisters are left to mourn his early demise. Mr. Rodine was a member of the town council and for many years a member of the school board. The schools were dismissed and the business stores closed Tuesday afternoon out of respect for the deceased. He was interred in the Olson cemetery. [South Marion Cemetery]
