OBITUARY

Mrs. John Quist

Mrs. Anna Lovisa Quist was born in Nässjö [Eksjö], Småland, Sweden, April 29 [20], 1837. She was married to John Quist in 1859 in Sweden and they came to America in 1862. For almost ten years they lived at Mineral Ridge and from that place they moved onto a farm in Hamilton county, where they lived for about twenty years, then moved onto the present Quist farm in Webster county, on which farm deceased passed away after having resided on the same farm for over thirty-five years.

The marriage was blessed with nine children, four of whom have preceded their mother in death. They are Alfred, Annie, Fred and Mrs. J.W. McKinney. The living children are: Mrs. J.P. Berggren of Forest Grove, Oregon, Mrs. Adam Leininger, of Boone; Andrew Quist of Stratford, Mrs. Nathan Powell of Madrid and Mrs. Frank Putzke of Humboldt, S.D. Sixteen grand children and fifteen great grand children also survive. Mr. Quist died the 18th of February eight years ago. Mrs. Quist died the 17th of February 1927 and she had reached the ripe old age of 89 years, 9 months, 19 days.

Deceased has been ailing and in very poor health for a number of years and through it all had been patient in bearing her suffering with a true Christian's courage. She and her husband were among the very early members of the South Marion Methodist church or as it was then known the Swede Bend Methodist church, their names appearing on the record of members in 1865.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. K.A. Stromberg and interment was made in the Hardin township cemetery [South Marion cemetery].

Card of Thanks

Swedish records for Eksjö stadsförsamling and Nässjö parish show that Anna Lovisa was born April 20, 1837 and baptized on April 23, 1837 in Eksjö city parish the daughter of a single mother, Johanna Johansdotter Lindeborg. The father's name is not recorded. Records show she (Anna Lovisa Hammerquist) married Johannes Abrahamsson on Jan. 27, 1859 in Nässjö parish.

Her obituary states she is buried at Hardin Township Cemetery, however, her death certificate states she is buried at Olson Cemetery (the former name for South Marion Cemetery). This would seem to be accurate since the family lot where her husband and children are buried is at South Marion Cemetery. Her individual grave is unmarked. She and her family were also lifelong members of the South Marion Methodist church associated with the South Marion Cemetery.
