PETERSON

Anna Sophia Engvall Peterson was born at Grenna, Sweden, the 18th of January, 1836. She resided with her parents until April, 1854, when she emigrated to America, locating at Keokuk, Iowa, at which place she was united in marriage to Richard Peterson the 10th of June, 1856. From Keokuk they moved to Des Moines and finally located in Swede Bend, Iowa, in 1865.

To this union was born nine children, five boys and four girls. Three boys and three girls besides a loving husband, preceded her to a better world.

Early in life she became a christian and affiliated herself with the Swedish Methodist church of South Marion of which she has been a member since 1865-a noble example for every christian who is a non-church member.

She was patient and resigned in her last suffering and died, trusting in her Savior, October 1st, 1913, at an age of 77 years, 8 months and 13 days. Her death marks the passing of one of the last of this community's pioneers. She is mourned and missed by two sons, one daughter, several grandchildren and a host of friends. May God comfort them all.

The burial service was held at South Marion Methodist church, October 3rd, the Rev. N. Pearson officiating. The text for the occasion was taken from 1 Samuel 20:18, "Thou shalt be missed, because thy seat shall be empty." The church was handsomely decorated for the occasion, and a large number of friends followed the remains to the last resting place.
