Edmund Everett Latham was born on July 18, 1939 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to parents Roy Marvin Latham and Velma Fern Latham. Ed joined his elder sister Donna Rae, and the Latham family lived in Fort Dodge throughout Ed’s school years. In 1956, Ed joined the U.S. Navy, where he served four years. This was followed by service in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963, which included Ed being stationed in West Germany. In 1964, Ed married Inga Lummer of Frankfurt, and their family grew with the addition of daughter, Michelle Ann later that year. The three lived in Germany until 1968, when Ed returned to the United States. Ed joined the Webster City Iowa Police force, where he served as a Patrolman, then a Detective, and eventually Chief of Police. During this time the family grew with the birth of daughter, Tanja Lee in 1970. Ed and Inga separated in 1982.

In 1983, Ed married Ann Elizabeth (Lashbrook) Pilcher, and continued to work in law enforcement in Webster City and Duncombe, Iowa. After retiring from law enforcement, Ed worked as an electrician, maintenance engineer and other jobs, keeping busy until fully retiring in 2010.

After retirement, Ed and Ann moved to Atlanta Georgia, where they lived until 2016. During his early retirement years Ed enjoyed traveling, visiting places such as England, Ireland and Wales, Jamaica and Grand Bahamas and Egypt. In 2017, Ed and Ann returned to the Midwest, living in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

Ed passed away at his home after a long illness on September 6, 2019. Edmund is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Velma. He is survived by his wife, Ann Latham, sister Donna Rae Wingert, daughters, Michelle Ann Hooker and Tanja Lee Gross, and stepchildren, Tim Pilcher, Toby Pilcher and Robin Myers. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren, Megan, Nadia, Alex, Isabel, Sierra, Brennan, Cael, Joe and Garrett and great-grandchildren, Jack and William.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Congregational Church (UCC) in Webster City on Tuesday, September 24th at 3:00 PM. Ed’s remains will be interred at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa in a military ceremony on Wednesday, September 25th at 11:00 AM.
