Samuel Peterson, at his home in Stratford, Feb. 3, 1896 at the age of 71 years and seven months.

Deceased was born in Östergötland, Sweden, in June 1824. He came with his young wife to America in 1851 and located in Swede Bend, Webster Co., Ia., where he purchased a claim from John Linn. Here he labored nearly all his life. His home was a hospitable one and many emigrants have spent the first days in America in it. In 1854 he was converted to Christ, and at no time could his character be questioned or criticized.

About six years ago his wife died leaving him alone and childless in the world. One year later he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Gabrielson, to whom two daughters were born. These together with many friends are left to mourn his departure. He has had poor health for a number of years and has been in bed for a whole year. He bore his sufferings with patience.
