SHERMAN PATTERSON

Funeral services for Sherman Patterson were conducted in the South Marion Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, by the pastor, the Rev. Murphy Duncan. The text was from Revelations 21:3-4: "And God himself shall be with them, and be their God: and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither crying, nor pain, anymore." A quartette, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bergquist, A.J. Swedlund and Pearl Swedlund, sang "No Night There," "The Unclouded Day," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The floral offerings were many and beautiful and bore a silent tribute of his many friends. Interment was in the South Marion Cemetery with the following pallbearers: Halbert Crim, Lester Johnson, Arthur Larson, Kenneth Stevens, Lester Swanson, Vernon Anderson.

Paul Sherman Patterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.G.E. Patterson, was born on a farm near Stratford on Sept. 10, 1909. He grew up in this community, attending the rural schools and later the Stratford schools and during his childhood and adolescence was a regular attendant at the South Marion Sunday school. In May 1922, he united with the South Marion Church with the confirmation class of that year.

In May, 1938, he was stricken with tuberculosis and on Aug. 5, 1938, was taken to the Swedish National Sanatorium, Englewood, Colo., for treatment. At first he made great improvement, but about a month ago complications set in and he died there on Aug. 2, 1939, at the age of 29 years, 10 months, 22 days.

During his illness he wrote his parents regularly and in his letters there was evidence that he was looking on the sunny side of life. He made many friends while in the sanatorium, one of these being a Mr. Anderson, who became a very close friend. He spoke of the cheefulness of his life, and the patience with which he bore his suffering.

He leaves to mourn his death: his parents; one brother, Earl of Stratford; three sisters, Mae and Maurine, of Stratford; and Mrs. Arthur Malmberg, of Stanhope, many other relatives and many friends.

The people of this community extend sincere condolences to the bereaved parents, sisters and brother.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to our neighbors and friends who were so kind and helpful during our bereavement. We also wish to thank the singers and friends who assisted in the services. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Patterson, Earl, Mae, Maurine, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Malmberg.

[son of Edward Charles Gustav Patterson and Emma Yarn Patterson]
