LUND

Sophia Lund, born Johnson, was born June 23, 1838, in Hallinberg socken, Kalmar lan, Skaftkulla, Sweden. In 1860 she was baptized and joined the Baptist church, remaining a faithful member until her death. In February, 1863, she was united in marriage to Nels J. Lund. They emigrated to America in 1860 and came to Swede Bend August 8th. Three years ago next July she was overcome by the heat, which resulted in a slight stroke of paralysis. She never fully recovered and her health had gradually failed her since, when death claimed her June 20th at 7 o'clock p.m. At the time of her death she was 75 years, 11 months and 27 days. Three daughters and two sons have preceded her, and she leaves a husband, three sons, one daughter and eight grandchildren to mourn her departure besides a brother in Sweden and other relatives and friends. She was a dutiful mother, a helpful neighbor and a cheerful friend.

The funeral services were held from the N.L. Peterson residence Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Robert Larson, and the remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery. Peace to her memory.

Death of Caroline Sophia Lund

Caroline Sophia Lund, mother of Hon. F.J. Lund of this city, died at her home in Marion township, on Saturday, June 20, 1914, at the age of 75 years, eleven months and 27 days. The family settled in Marion township in 1866 and the deceased has resided there ever since. She is survived by her husband, Nels J. Lund of Stanhope, and the following children: David Lund of Bancroft, Oscar Lund of Stratford, Frank J. Lund of this city, Minnie Lund of Stratford, and two grandchildren by her deceased daughter, Annie Peterson. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the remains being interred in the SwedeBend cemetery [South Marion cemetery] near Stratford. F.J. Lund went down yesterday to attend the funeral.
