Obituary
Lander.

Alice H. Lander passed away at her home near Dayton Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, the cause of her death being due to consumption. About a year ago it was learned that deceased was afflicted with this dread disease, but none thought that the end was to come so soon and the sad news of her death cast a shadow of gloom over the whole community. All the care and love that skilled physicians and relatives could secure for her comfort were brought into play, but the fiat of Him who rules overruled all entreaties and appeals and before the beautiful Easter morning was kissed by the morning sun, the sufferer's spirit took its flight to the home beyond.

No one can explain why a young girl, such as Alice Lander should be called from this life at eighteen. She had not a thought that was not a gentle one, not one that did not hold all the world in the arms of its kindliness. She was sorely needed here. She was the light of her brothers and friends, and the light has now gone out. To them she was what the sunshine is to the world, and her departure from them, brings both darkness and chill.

Deceased was born south of Stratford June 21, 1890 [headstone says 1891] and at the time of her death was 18 years, 9 months and 29 days of age. Her parents have preceded her to the better land and she leaves to mourn her demise, three brothers, one half brother, relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church here Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. C.G. Bengtson officiating and paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. The casket was decorated with beautiful floral designs, all of which spoke of peace, purity and immortality. At the close of the services the remains were taken to the South Marion cemetery where they were interred. May God's purest angels guard her slumbers.

[daughter of Olaf and Betsey Johnson Lander]
