CATHERINE JOHNSON was born in Lema, Sweden, in 1819, and died near Stratford, Iowa, Apr. 11, 1893. She emigrated to this country with the Bishop Hill (Ill.) Colonization company in 1846, was married to Jonas Johnson in 1849, and soon after moved to Hamilton County, Iowa, where she has resided ever since.

She was the mother of five children, three girls and two boys, four of whom preceded her to the grave. One son, J.H. Johnson, of this place, and the husband are left to mourn her loss.

She was a consistent member of the Methodist church for over thirty years, and was buried in the Olson Cemetery after an impressive sermon by her pastor, Rev. Leahn, at the Methodist church, three miles south of Stratford.
