Julia Annettie Carlson, daughter of John A. and Mary [Sackrison] Carlson, was born Feb. 23, 1888, and died in Iowa Methodist hospital, Des Moines, April 20, 1943, at the age of 55 years, 1 month, 25 days.

She was united in marriage to W.R. Holstrom, May 19, 1923 and until Feb. 1 of this year they lived on their farm south of town. Then Mrs. Holstrom's failing health made it necessary for them to leave the farm and they moved to Stratford.

Deceased entered the hospital on March 2 and on March 12 underwent a major operation from which she did not recover.

She was a member of the South Marion Methodist church in which she was active so long as her health permitted it. She was also a member of the local chapter of Order of Eastern Star and of the American Legion Auxiliary and will be missed by both organizations.

She attended a business college in Des Moines and served in five sessions of the late legislature as stenographer and committee clerk. She also taught in the rural schools in the South Marion vicinity for some years.

Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. J.A. Carlson, of Stratford; two sisters, Mrs. A.R. Youngberg, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Carl Wahman, of Stratford; three brothers, Franklin Carlson, of Stanhope; M.C. Carlson, of Stratford, and James E. Carlson, of Minneapolis, Minn. Also surviving are seven nephews and four nieces.

So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan, that moves
To join that mysterious realm, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave,
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him and lies down to pleasant dreams.
- Thanatopsis.

[the correct spelling of her married name is Holstrom]
