Obituary

Higley

Mrs. Emma J. Higley passed away at the family home here Friday afternoon about 4 o'clock. The death was no surprise to her family friends as she had lain dangerously ill for six long months and her death seemed at times but an hour away.

Deceased was born in Galesburg, Ill., October 9, 1867 and was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Barquist [Andrew & Christine Anderson Barquist]. She moved with her parents to Stratford in the Spring of 1881 and lived with them a good share of the time with the exception of a few years spent in Boone, Omaha and Kansas.

She was united in marriage to George N. Higley on December 11, 1901 and he died July 28, 1902, since then she has lived here with her parents.

She leaves a father, two sisters and three brothers to mourn her death. Her mother passed away but a couple of months ago. Kind to everyone, unselfish of her own interests, with a sweet disposition and a loving heart, she won the admiration of all who knew her. Her lot was a hard one when all seemed brightest. Her life with the one she loved and married was but a little over seven months duration and then shortly came her own sickness, her grandmother's death, her mother's death, and then her own passing away. Truly she had the patience of a Martha in her last hours and through the weary months of suffering. Her sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of a host of friends. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church Sunday by Rev. Christenson of Dayton. It was one of the largest funerals held here for many years.
