Hall

John Hall was born in Sweden, June 17th, 1829, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.B. Stromert, in Stratford, Iowa, August 30, 1908, aged 79 years, 2 months and 13 days. He came to this country when he was 28 years of age. He lived in Galesburg, Illinois about one year, coming from there to Swede Point, Iowa, in 1859, finally locating in Swede Bend in 1860. He was united in, marriage with Margaret Ostrom, August 2, 1861, to which union four children were born — two boys and two girls — one of the boys dying in infancy. His wife preceded him to the great beyond lacking two days of twelve years ago, since which time he has made his home with his children. He was converted at Galesburg, Illinois in 1857 and united with the Swede Bend Methodist church in 1860, of which he remained a member until his death. He was a good neighbor, a loyal citizen, a patient and loving husband and father. The home was the center of his affections, and he was a great lover of the children, especially was this true for the past two or three years. The deceased leaves one son, two daughters and fourteen grandchildren to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the residence conducted by Rev. J.L. DeWitt, assisted by Rev. C.G. Bengtson, after which the remains were taken to the Swedish M.E. church, where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. O.R. Palm. The remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery.
