A fatal accident

DRAGGED TO DEATH

Martin Erickson an old settler in this vicinity, well and favorably known as an industrious farmer was dragged to death by a runaway horse last Friday night. He had been in town during the day and started home just before dark when near O. Norlings place the horse became frightened and he was thrown from a cart his feet catching between the slats in the bottom of the cart. He was dragged in this position about two miles and when picked up by some men who had seen the accident followed as fast as they could, he was dead. Mr. Erickson was born at Ovanåker, Sweden Aug. 15th, 1829, emigrated to America and settled at Victoria, Ill. in 1858, came to Iowa in 1865 and settled on his place four miles south of Stratford where he has spent his last twenty seven years until his death. The deceased leaves one daughter Mrs. Beck living near Gowrie. Since the death of his son Victor which occurred last spring he has lived alone. Mr. and Mrs. Beck came up from Gowrie Saturday to attend the funeral, which was preached at the house by Rev. Lind of the Baptist Church.
