Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Monday, December 7, 1931

Gunda Jennie Marie Carlstedt was born Feb. 26, 1866 in Oslo, Norway and died at her home in Stratford, Nov. 21, 1931, at the age of 65 years, 8 months, 26 days. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran church in Norway.

In 1883 she came to America and located in Sioux Rapids, and in 1885 came to Stratford. In 1887 she was united in married to Carl Carlstedt, moving at once to their farm east of Stratford where they resided until the spring of 1921, when they moved into Stratford where they built a new home.

Mrs. Carlstedt was the mother of eight children. One daughter died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her departure a loving husband and her children whose names are Mrs. Walter Aekrson, of Fort Lupton, Col., Mrs. Oscar Peterson, Mrs. Lloyd Anderson, Mrs. Garret Johnson, John, Herman and Clifford, all of Stratford, and one sister, Mrs. Amanda Nelson, of Lake Mills. She is also survived by 12 grand children, many relatives and a host of friends.

Her death came after about a year of illness and she had continually grown weaker. Although her sufferings were often very great she was never heard to complain and was always a most patient sufferer and thereby often made it a joy for her family and near ones to care for her in her illness. She will be most sorely missed by her husband who found her to be a most true and faithful companion.

She was always willing to carry her full share of any burdens of the home and of life. As a mother she always wanted to be loving and kind and in a most motherly way direct her children in right paths of life and set her life as an example for them. Her neighbors will remember her as one who always was ready with a helping hand in times of trouble, and to help socially where she could.

As a member of the Stratford Lutheran church she will be deeply missed. She was a true and active member of the church and very often took a leading part in actives, sacrificing of her time and means as a true servant of God. During her illness her pastor visited her very often and she always enjoyed these pastoral visits and gave personal and beautiful testimonies of her faith.

The funeral services were Monday and were conducted from the home at 2 o'clock and 2:30 from the church, her pastor, the Rev. Anton Chell, officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Hilder Anderson, Mrs. Gustus Berglund, Alfred Erickson and Gust Erickson sang two songs which were, "It Is Well with My soul" and a Swedish song which was one of her favorite ones, "Smartans Stunder Ila." Mrs. Anton Chell sang a solo, "Saved by Grace."

The pallbearers were August Carlson, Chas. Carlson, Gust Erickson, O.W. Cline, Peter Leksell and Erick Lindquist. Because of inclement weather the burial ritual was held at the church after which burial was made in the South Marion cemetery. -Contributed
