Obituary

MORRIS C. CARLSON

Funeral services for Morris C. Carlson were held from the Calvary Methodist church in Stratford on Sunday, November 7th, at two p.m. with the Rev. Otto Steele officiating.

Two vocal selections, "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," were sung by Mrs. Harold Westrum accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Bell.

Legion rites were held at the graveside with Chaplin Julius Hook officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were: Dr. H.W. Krieger, Stanley Quick, Leonard Bergman, John Douty, Dr. M.E. Pomeroy, and Arvid Erickson. Burial was in South Marion cemetery southeast of Stratford.

Morris Clinton Carlson, son of Mary [Sackrison] and John Carlson was born on a farm near Stratford, April 27, 1894, and died in the Hamilton County Hospital, November 4th, 1954, at the age of 60 years, 6 months, 8 days. His death was due to a heart ailment.

In 1914 the family moved into Stratford and this has since been his home except for the time he served in France, during World War I.

He leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Youngberg of Des Moines and Mrs. Pearl Wahman of Stratford, and one brother, James E. Carlson of Minneapolis; four nieces, seven nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers, Mabel, Nettie, Vernie and Franklin.

He was a widely known business man, being in the Insurance, and Real Estate Business for a number of years. He also was a member of the American Legion and Stratford Commercial Club.

He was a true and faithful servant to his mother, caring for her for over 30 years and the smaller children were devoted to him.

Morris Carlson was a kind and generous man who made many friends, who gained the respect of the community, and was a loyal friend of the Calvary Methodist Church.
